Sometimes — maybe even oftentimes, depending on how cynical you’re feeling — the political opinions of celebrities get frustrating. The seemingly constant waves of inconsistent or ill-considered political thoughts that get published merely because someone is known for an entirely different set of skills can be annoying at best.

Even if that’s the case with model Gigi Hadid, her particular background makes her stances worth mentioning here. Hadid is typically tight-lipped on social media, keeping things close to the chest while others are more than happy to drop personal lines amidst the sponsored content and promotional tweets. So, when she does say something, even if you don’t necessarily agree, people are more likely to pay attention.

Hadid, whose father Mohamed Hadid is Palestinian, generated some of the biggest political attention for her opinions on the Israel-Palestine conflict. She is, as one might expect, pro-Palestinian, having published opinions critical of the Israeli government and her own U.S. government’s involvement in the matter. She generated minor controversy when she spoke of “greedy” Israeli officials, making activists question her use of that word in relation to a majority Jewish nation.

Gigi and her sister, Bella, were raised as observant Muslims by their family. As such, Hadid has been vocally opposed to Trump’s travel ban, which is currently blocking travel from seven countries, many of which are majority Muslim.

Earlier, however, she confused and irritated many fans with her changing views on Donald Trump. Arguably, Hadid is no fan of the current President of the United States, but she has also tweeted that “as a country, we should give him a chance”. Was that a capitulation or a call for unity? It’s hard to tell.
