Yeah, sorry. Part of the perils of celebrities or otherwise well-known people getting involved in politics is the fact that, inevitably, some of them will get involved with what you might think is the “wrong” side of the aisle. Even if that isn’t the case, you may feel a rush of secondhand embarrassment when a certain celebrity repeatedly insists that they put their foot in their mouth.

For years, it’s been not much of a secret that Kid Rock, rapper and musician originally known as Robert James Ritchie, is a Republican. That’s fine, on the face of things. People are entitled to different political beliefs and it’s entirely possible to live in harmony even if you don’t agree on, say, moderate political matters.

Things get tougher, of course, when it comes to matters like social issues and respecting your fellow Americans and humans in general. Kid Rock, perhaps never really known for his thoughtful and well-informed opinions, hasn’t exactly helped the political discourse. His political history may be a bit confusing for some, given that he’s supported Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, along with George W. Bush and, again, Donald Trump.

He’s even been the progenitor of one (mostly fake, if terrifyingly plausible) run for a Michigan Senate seat in 2017. Ritchie apologized for that and then turned around and tried to convince everyone that he might actually do it in 2018, even going so far as to put up a candidate website.

Alas/thankfully, that Senate run never did happen.
