There is a theory that Credence Barebone is the son of Albus Dumbledore. If this were true, how would the Fantastic Beasts franchise end?

Fair warning to all who have not yet seen the latest Wizarding World movie Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. This post will contain specific details about the movie, therefore spoilers, as we discuss the idea of Credence and Dumbledore being father and son, and what this could mean for the ending to the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Ok, so for all of you have seen Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald you obviously know how it ends. We get the big shocking reveal where Grindelwald tells Credence that he is the mysterious long-lost brother of Albus Dumbledore, Aurelius.

More from Harry Potter

Now if you caught my most recent Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald post. It discussed the theory that has been circulating recently that Credence is not the brother of Albus Dumbledore but in fact his son.

I went into depth about how this could be, and how it is more likely that he is a son rather than a brother. It is, by no means, a perfect theory, but it does certainly have potential and some of you even agreed on social media that this is more likely than Credence being Dumbledore’s brother.

But like I said, it is not a perfect theory, it could turn out to be way off track when we learn the truth. Which will hopefully be in Fantastic Beasts 3. J.K. Rowling has promised answers will be given and both the Director and Producer of the Fantastic Beasts movies confirmed that Dumbledore’s family would be explored at the start of the next movie.

But let’s just say, for now, that we are right with this one. And Credence is Dumbledore’s brother. How would the Fantastic Beasts franchise end?

Will Dumbledore kill his own son? Let’s take a look.

How the Fantastic Beasts franchise could end if Credence is Dumbledore’s son?

Ok, so let’s look at what we know for certain first of all. We know that eventually Grindelwald is defeated and it is Dumbledore who defeats him. And this will be where the Fantastic Beasts franchise comes to an end.

How things happened is not massively clear, all that is really told during the Harry Potter franchise is that the two dueled one another and Dumbledore was the victor. As I am sure you are aware by now, there is no mention of Credence anywhere in Harry Potter nor anything about a secret brother named Aurelius, or a son, that Dumbledore might have had.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean events did not take place and where just never recorded. After all, history is written by the victor. Dumbledore may have told everyone what happened and left some key details out, like Credence.

Then you have to consider the possibility what people saw and told was not the events that took place. Remember the tales told about Sirius and Peter Pettigrew? Everyone was certain Sirius blew up Peter. But we all know what happened really.

The point being, the duel between Grindelwald and Dumbledore may be recorded in Harry Potter as one thing. But what actually happened is another thing entirely. So I think what we will eventually see is nothing like what is described in Harry Potter and some covering up or details will be hidden, ignored, or miss-interrupted completely.

What I do think is Dumbledore and Credence will eventually duel one another. Whether it will be part of the big Dumbledore v Grindlewald duel is another thing, but what I can’t imagine is Dumbledore killing his son, or brother, willingly.

From the events that took place in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald it did not look as though Dumbledore knows who Credence is. He is either not aware of a secret brother/son, or is a very good liar. I’m drawn towards the first option. Which brings us to a very dark path the franchise could go down. Will Dumbledore kill Credence and then learn who he truly is?

It’s the only way I can see this playing out. I can’t imagine Dumbledore killing a family member knowingly. His strong affiliation to family, especially after the loss of his sister, would overcome his willingness to do such a thing. The only way I can see this playing out is Credence is killed off, and surely he has to be killed off since he isn’t about in Harry Potter, and only then will Dumbledore learn who he is.
