Parks and Recreation
The what: Much like some of our other favorite NBC shows, Parks and Recreation needs little introduction. Even after it’s finale in 2015, it’s had a surge in popularity since landing on Netflix. The local government of Pawnee, Indiana has become quite notorious since we first met our favorite government employees in 2009 and it’s launched the careers of all of its stars.
The feels: Amy Poehler’s portrayal of Leslie Knope has become a feminist marker of our modern time, and she’s a downright role model for so many young women. She is plucky and determined, and has an undeterred love for those in her close circle and community. She’s the embodiment of all of our best selves.
The rest of her friends and coworkers in the department of Parks and Recreation also serve to underscore the importance of having something you care about and can work toward. Even the most cynical of the bunch demonstrate the strong ties of friendship and selfless love.
The deets: You can watch all seven seasons of the modern classic on Netflix, but be warned. Once you start you won’t want to stop, and when it’s over you’ll have a Pawnee-shaped hole in your heart. Aside from Poehler, you’ll see the likes of Chris Pratt, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman, Aziz Ansari, Rob Lowe, Rashida Jones, Adam Scott, and Retta. This doesn’t even begin to acknowledge all the huge guest stars that made their way to Parks and Rec department over the years.
