Anne with an E

The what: This Netflix series reimagines the popular young adult novel and film from the 1980s. The Anne of the title is a 13-year-old orphan who suffered many years of abuse at the hands of homes and foster families. She finally winds up at the home of Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, and through a safe and loving home, all three are transformed.

The feels: Anne is just downright inspiring, and I remember feeling that way as a young girl, reading the books. She has such a sweet and imaginative spirit, and she is so occupied with lifting others up, she a bit of a role model for women, young and old.

She’s the reminder we need to be grateful, despite our circumstances, and that being kind is always the best decision. As a kid, Anne of Green Gables was a transformative text for me, and now, as an adult, I’m finding a similar experience with Anne with a E.

The deets: Both seasons of the original series is available now. I will warn you. It’s not all warm feelings. Anne has a dark past, and some of the depictions of the abuse she suffered can be hard to watch. To me, it makes her triumphant spirit that much more joyous, but it can get kind of tough.
