In an Absent Dream – Seanan McGuire

Seanan McGuire has released a new Wayward Children novella every year for the past three years, and 2019 will be no different. The latest addition to the series, In An Absent Dream, tells the story of Lundy, a young girl who much prefers her books and dreams over the idea of marriage and becoming a proper lady. Unfortunately, that isn’t the way society tells her things should be.

When Lundy enters a doorway and finds herself in a world seemingly built on logic, she’s thrilled. Not only does this world allow her to step into the stories and dreams she loves, but it offers her an escape from the notions of what a woman “should be.”

Unfortunately, Lundy soon discovers that, while logic is often used to do good, it can be used to weave lies as well. And the goblin market she’s become caught up in tends to extract a steep price from its visitors. When her time at the goblin market begins running out, Lundy makes a deal—but naturally, it’s the kind of bargain that might not end well for her.

Like the other Wayward Children novels, Lundy’s story sounds dark and whimsical, the perfect combination given that the books deal with children who have experienced magic but been shipped back to the real world. McGuire covers this theme well, no matter which child’s story she’s telling. She always manages to keep readers engaged.

In An Absent Dream hits bookstores on January 8. Much like The Wicked KingIn An Absent dream is perfect for readers looking to curl up on a cold night and dive into a dark and fantastical story.
