The Kingdom of Copper – S.A. Chakraborty
S.A. Chakraborty received plenty of praise for her debut fantasy novel, The City of Brass, which was released in 2017. In 2019, Chakraborty will continue The Daevabad Trilogy with the highly anticipated second book, The Kingdom of Copper.
The Kingdom of Copper continues the story of Nahri, a con woman who claimed to have supernatural powers that she didn’t believe in—that is, until she accidentally summoned a djinn warrior named Dara during The City of Brass. That summoning opened up the world of magic to Nahri, and it bound her fate to the legendary city of Daevabad, a place full of enchantments and treachery.
Though Nahri attempted to infiltrate Daevabad’s dangerous court, the unfortunate events that occured at the end of the first book left her without the djinn guardian she summoned or counsel at court. In Kingdom of Copper, she’s forced to create a new path for herself. But her heritage leaves her in danger from Daevabad’s monarch, and she needs to tread carefully to protect her people.
And while Nahri and the others navigate the court, a darker threat looms in the north. If left unchecked, that danger could burn Daevabad to the ground—and then the petty political schemes of the court certainly won’t matter.
Chakraborty’s series is perfect for readers who love intricate fantasy realms with complex politics and numerous story lines. The Kingdom of Copper comes out on Jan. 22, so there’s still time for readers to dive into this series (if they haven’t already).
