The Lost Metal – Brandon Sanderson

As is the case with many large fantasy novels, the release date for The Lost Metal, the next book in Brandon Sanderson’s well-loved Mistborn series, has changed several times over the past few years. It makes sense, given the fact that Sanderson has been busy with other projects—The Stormlight Archive and Skyward among them.

But in 2017, when Sanderson posted an update of the progress on his books, he confirmed that he’d be taking a step away from The Stormlight Archive following the release of OathbringerHe’d be shifting focus to work on other projects, including his Mistborn series. And in that same post, he revealed that The Lost Metal would now release during the fall of 2019.

Sanderson hasn’t spoken much of the book since, though knowing him, he’s probably been busy writing it. The Lost Metal continues what is often considered the second series in the Mistborn world, which follows Waxillium Ladrian, a character first introduced in The Alloy of Law. He and his friend Wayne have seen plenty of adventures since that book, and The Lost Metal should have even more in store for them.

There isn’t much of a synopsis for The Lost Metal, though fans can assume that it will pick up where The Bands of Mourning left off. Plenty was revealed during that installment, and the stakes were certainly raised for Wax and his friends. Given the book’s title, it will also likely focus on “the lost metal,” which could either be Atium or Trellium at this point.

There’s no set release date for The Lost Metal, though assuming there are no other delays, readers can expect it during the second half of 2019.
