5. John Wick: Chapter 3

A new John Wick movie is always something to look forward to, for anyone who enjoys truly transcendent fight sequences that make extreme violence into a modern art form. Though John Wick 2 lacked the emotional backbone of the first—you can only kill the dog once, after all—it was nonetheless a fantastic action film, beautifully shot and a ton of fun to watch.

Now, John Wick is at it again. The ending of the second film left our favorite ex-assassin in a pretty tight spot, with a price on his head and every member of the criminal underworld familiar with the business end of a pistol hard on his heels. All the poor guy wanted was to retire; but evidently when you’re a world-famous assassin, you need more than a 401K to finally get out of the game. John Wick: Chapter 3 promises to be even more large-scale than the second one, and though the stakes can never be quite as high (seriously, killing the dog was, as wrong as it feels to say, perfect) the body count can always tick upward.

Like Men In Black International, this movie also has scenes filmed in Morocco, so we can be reasonably sure that John Wick’s time on the run will bring him there. A couple of new actors have joined the team for the next chapter, including Halle Berry as Sofia. The stills of her character are pretty sweet, featuring leather pants and a couple of dogs that don’t look like the sort you’d want to try to pet. Not much else is known about her character, but if looks could kill, then John Wick wouldn’t stand a chance.
