10. Spider-Man: Far From Home
The endless parade of Spider-Man movies continues, though of course, Tom Holland is arguably the most popular Spidey yet. Maybe it’s the fact that he looks more like a high schooler than any of the previous actors, or maybe it’s that Spider-Man is now part of the MCU; either way, there’s more wall-crawling goodness to be had in the form of Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019.
The very existence of this movie is a spoiler for Avengers: Endgame, but one way or another Peter Parker gets Swiffered up and reassembled in order to continue his neighborhood friendly crime-fighting ways.
What’s really exciting about the sequel is that Jake Gyllenhaal will play Mysterio, not as the villain but apparently as a potential ally. The funny Instagram videos both stars have been posting are even more promising that we’ll get a great dynamic out of this one.
If you’ve seen him in Nightcrawler, you know how terrifying Gyllenhaal can be; the added camp of being a supervillain-turned-super-ally promises only good things. In the comics, Mysterio doesn’t have any powers at all; he’s a washed-up special effects technician who uses his skills with illusion to psychologically torment Spider-Man without anything in the vicinity of real magic. Though it appears Mysterio’s character might be on Spider-Man’s side, the events of Infinity War mean that Peter Parker is certainly going through some serious psychological turmoil in Far From Home; whether or not Mysterio is the vehicle to explore that, it will be interesting to see how dark Marvel decides to take it.
