Melisandre will save Westeros
If Melisandre does prove herself capable of repeating her resurrection magic and restoring life to Viserion, it stands to reason that she could do the same for the rest of the White Walkers. After all, Viserion appears to be the same as them—and they do appear to be dead, meaning using resurrection magic on them might be possible.
While this isn’t an official theory, it does extend the previous theory that Melisandre will resurrect Daenerys’ third dragon, suggesting that Melisandre might be able to do more than just increase Westeros’ odds of survival. If Melisandre is capable of returning the dead to their original states, she could be the key to defeating the Night King once and for all.
There’s also Melisandre’s conversation with Varys during season even to consider. She tells the Spider that she’ll go to Volantis, as she’s no longer welcome among the ranks of Jon Snow and Ser Davos. Varys suggests that she remain in Volantis, but she tells him that she’ll return “one last time.” When he goes to protest, she simply states that she has “to die in this strange country. Just like you.”
Her words are cryptic, but the implication seems to be that Melisandre has seen her return to Westeros in the flames. It sounds like she needs to come back for a reason, though whether that’s to see the Prince That Was Promised or stop the army of the dead remains to be seen.
The latter is a long shot, but Game of Thrones fans can hope, can’t we?
