This year has been dubbed #20GayTeen for a reason. LGBTQ artists, athletes, and narratives took center stage in pop culture in 2018, and it’s about time!

The year is finally coming to an end. It feels like 2018 has been going on forever, and yet, we still can’t believe it’s almost New Years. After a year filled with terrible things happening on the news every day and the world slowly coming to an end, it’s nice to think of 2019 as being a fresh start for all of us, and hopefully, better things are on the way.

One thing that was great about 2018, though, was how much LGBTQIA+ representation was all around us. Dubbed #20GayTeen on Twitter, this year saw huge leaps for members of the queer community, including but not limited to gay athletes at the PyeongChang Olympics (yup, those were this year), queer-centric films at the Oscars, and a whole bunch of LGBTQIA+ winners at this year’s Emmy Awards.

From gay teen films like Love, Simon, to Queer Eye premiering on Netflix to make us all laugh and cry until it hurt, 2018 really was a great year for the LGBTQIA+ community. Though there is still so much work to be done, it’s nice to look back at all the wins for the community this year.

So before the year is done, let’s take a chance to go back and see just how queer #20GayTeen was with these 15 major LGBTQIA+ moments in pop culture in 2018.
