Arie changes his mind and dumps Becca on TV – The Bachelor
What happened: The Bachelor proved, once again, men on reality TV are awful and women on reality show will believe anything they tell them. In this particular case, bachelor Arie gives his chosen bachelorette, Becca, the brush off in front of cameras and America.
Everybody knows the format of this particular series. Arie narrowed his choices down from a group of 25 women, and the last two standing were Becca and Lauren. He told both of these women he loved them and felt incredibly conflicted. Turns out, he picked wrong, and he delivered this news to Becca, for America to eat up with a spoon.
Why it’s important: Okay. Okay. It’s not really important, but it was still pretty brutal. With so much bad behavior on reality TV, it’s easy to get desensitized to awful human behavior. Not this time, Bachelor fans. Not this time.
Watching this man crush this poor woman’s feelings was perhaps the hardest moment of TV all year. She was completely blindsided, thinking they were there to plan their wedding. She went from shocked, to incredulous, to outright furious, right before our eyes. As far as human behavior, it was a real trainwreck, but as far as good TV is concerned, it was gold.
How to watch it: Arie’s season is a little harder to find. In the interest of full disclosure, you should know he wasn’t among the most popular of the suitors. However, you can probably watch all the juiciest moments of the exchange on YouTube.
