The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is getting a lot of buzz after its first season won two Golden Globes, for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy and Best Actress, for the series star Rachel Brosnahan, as well as a plethora of Emmys. Anyone who was still sleeping on the Amazon original at that point quickly took notice, and now that the holidays are coming, it’s about time everyone binges the two seasons that are now available.

The show was created and produced by Gilmore Girls mastermind Amy Sherman-Palladino, so expect lots of wit, fast-paced dialogue, and strong, funny women who don’t take any nonsense.

It’s about Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a not-so typical Jewish housewife in New York City in 1958. She realizes that she has a knack for the art of stand-up comedy, and decides to follow her newfound passion. Her husband, a businessman and struggling comedian, reveals after one of his unsuccessful performances that he has been having an affair with his secretary, and he leaves Midge, inspiring a whole new career move for her.

Midge’s anger and heartbreak drives her to get drunk, head out to the comedy club, and deliver an impromptu set, and the audience loves every second of it. After she goes a bit far and lands herself in jail (you’ll see why), she teams up with Susie Myerson, an employee at the club and wannabe comic manager (played by Alex Borstein, who made several appearances on Gilmore Girls as well).

The second season was released on Amazon this past October, so you’re not too late to jump right into the series while it’s still on everyone’s lips. After the success of season 1 and the strong reviews season 2 is already getting, I have no doubt this isn’t the last you hear of Midge Maisel!
