Star Wars: Episode IX trailer: 5 things we hope to see when it drops
Rumors are circulating that Episode IX’s trailer could be released as early as Wednesday. These are the things we want to see if it drops.
Fans are eagerly awaiting any and all information about Star Wars: Episode IX. After a whole year with no Star Wars movies to entertain loyalists, the wait has been incredibly long.
New rumors hint that a teaser trailer for Episode IX will come as soon as Wednesday of this week. Express helps offer some validity to the rumors, reporting various reasons why the trailer would drop on December 19 of all days. The date is significant to the Star Wars universe for a few reasons: it marks the date for the final issue of the popular comic Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith, and is the date when previews for the film will be held in 2019.
While we’ll most likely be seeing a teaser and not a lengthy trailer (they have to keep us waiting, don’t they), we could still see some valuable clips that offer insight for the upcoming film. Below is our wish list of what we hope to see when Episode IX‘s teaser drops.
Episode IX‘s title
If the trailer does drop, we definitely need a title. Star Wars deserve this, just like Marvel fans did and fully received when Avengers: Endgame‘s trailer dropped recently. While it might not give too much away, a title can give rise to a lot of fan theories and speculation. One of the most recent rumors about the title is that Episode IX will be called Son of Darkness. Other rumored titles include Shadow of the Empire, which was originally meant to be the title of The Force Awakens. Honestly, as long as it’s not Son of Darkness, we’re all right with it. That title might be too emo even for Kylo!
A scene featuring our four main heroes
At the end of The Last Jedi, the four main heroes of the trilogy finally reunited in the same place. We would love to see Rey, Finn, Poe, and Rose all in a scene together in the trailer even if it is just for a brief moment. A scene such as this would be inspiring and motivating, especially since these four really make up the heart of the new trilogy. Whether it’s witty banter between all four, or watching as they head off on a mission in the Millennium Falcon — we’re here for it.
Leia’s role, and potentially, any lines
While this might be a long-shot, one of the biggest questions going into Episode IX is what role General Leia Organa will play. After Carrie Fisher’s passing, it’s not entirely clear how much of a role Leia will have in the film or how Star Wars will conclude her story. While we do know Episode IX will use unused footage from the past two films to help create Leia’s appearance, we’re unsure how much she will speak in the film or any trailers. Given how very little we saw or heard from Leia in The Last Jedi trailers, history could repeat itself here. Then again, we’re so close to the anniversary of Carrie Fisher’s passing and honestly, even a few words from her while acting as Leia would be appreciated by fans.
Clues to Kylo Ren’s development (or downfall)
Another central question going into the final film of the trilogy is about Kylo Ren and whether or not he will have a redemption arc in the end. This seems somewhat likely, but we will just have to wait and see if he can be redeemed at all. Hopefully, the trailer gives us a few moments or scenes to fuel speculation. Kylo Ren is set up to be the leader of The First Order in Episode IX, and there are rumors he will wear his old mask again. If we see him don it in this trailer, even if it’s just for a second, that could give us a glimpse of his return to darkness.
New creatures and worlds
This might be an unpopular opinion, but one of the best things about Star Wars is the world-building and the strange creatures and aliens. We aren’t against seeing a new creature that fuel as much love (and also annoyance) as the Porgs did. Perhaps we’ll venture into more aquatic worlds where impressive aliens of the deep are waiting to mystify or terrify us. Or maybe we’ll see new creatures that aren’t just here to entertain, but will be used as weapons by The First Order. Just as long as we can see the Porgs one more time (what can we say, they’re both creepy and cute), we’re good.
