After reading about these travel destinations, fans of The Lord of the Rings might find themselves running out of the house, shouting, “I’m going on an adventure!”

The Lord of the Rings is arguably one of the greatest book-to-film adaptations of all time, something that can be attributed to the time and effort put into the making of the films. From the casting to the effects, the films are incredibly thought out and true to the original story. And one certainly can’t forget the sets, which played a major part in making the movies feel true to the novels they’re based off of.

J.R.R. Tolkien is known for his detailed descriptions of scenery, and the onscreen depictions of Middle-earth thankfully manage to do Tolkien’s worldbuilding justice, from the sprawling hills of the Shire to the treacherous realm of Mordor,

And given the gorgeous landscapes featured in The Lord of the Rings films, it’s difficult to imagine fans who don’t experience the feeling of wanderlust after watching the trilogy. After all, a major theme that appears throughout both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies is that of stepping outside one’s comfort zone and exploring the world—even if the world outside can be dangerous at times.

Luckily for Lord of the Rings fans itching to travel—regardless of any Ringwraiths lurking abroad—there are plenty of destinations that allow visitors to immerse themselves in Tolkien’s world all over again. These 20, in particular, will make fans feel like they’ve been transported from the boring real world straight to the Shire.
