Hunk’s cookies

Hunk is the kindest soul around with an outstanding appetite. He likes spending his time in the kitchen and making comfort foods for himself and for his friends.

With Allura and the others desperate to get answers out of the captured Alteans, Hunk thinks outside the box and turns to his baking skills to get the job done. He ends up making Altean cookies in the hopes of sharing them with the prisoners and reminding them of a happier time.

It’s a touching act that helps build a bridge between Allura and the Alteans. It also reminds us of Hunk’s incredibly generous heart and how not everything can be solved through forceful means. Sometimes, a cookie goes a long way.

Souls awaken

Killed by Honerva’s dark magic, the souls of the original Paladins of Voltron were trapped for over 10,000 years. Thanks to Allura and her crew, their souls rise once again, giving us a truly epic moment of the old meeting the new.

We had seen the original Paladins before and learned about how they came about, but this is the first time we see them interacting with the current defenders of the universe.

In the process, Allura is also reunited with her father, King Alfor. It’s a touching moment, since everything Allura has done has been to honor her father’s memory. Not only that, but Lance shares a warm moment with Alfor in which Alfor acknowledges Lance’s love for Allura.

When two become one

The fabric between the universes has been ripped apart by Honerva, and it’s up to Voltron to stop her before entire realities are destroyed. The thing is Voltron is no match for the dark magic infused machine Honerva created for herself.

The IGF-Atlas can provide backup, but it’s not made of the same material as Voltron, making it impossible to cross realities. Just when you think the Voltron team don’t have anymore tricks up their sleeves, the ultimate transformation takes place when Voltron and the Atlas combine into one massive defender of the universe.

It’s a moment that injects more hope into the cause and reminds the audience the fight is far from over. Plus, it’s pretty epic.

She saves them all

We’re down to the last episode of the series. Honerva’s gone completely mad and starts decimating entire streams of universes. Voltron finally gets ahold of her and the Paladins manage to get through the madness. Sometimes, words are more effective than swords and punching.

Unfortunately, the damage is done. She’s destroyed countless universes. While it seems irreparable, there is a way to bring them all back. Oddly enough, Lotor taught Allura what she needs to do in a situation like this, but she’ll die in the process. It’s a sacrifice she’s willing to make. At this point, the tears have turned to full-on waterfalls.

It’s heartbreaking because Allura has sacrificed so much already. It’s unfair to lose such an amazing character, but her selflessness is simultaneously inspiring. It also makes the heart ache even more knowing she and Lance just got together, and Lance believed he was going to spend his life with her. Life is a beautiful thing, but sometimes, it can be downright cruel.

The end

Did you stay until the very end of the final episode? Just when we thought we were done crying, there is one final clip of the lions flying through space. If you look closely, though, you can see the profile of Allura in the background. She’s part of the cosmos now, a true goddess amongst the stars.
