Melantha in the tank

While in a tank to practice underwater and take a moment to relax, Melantha suddenly has visions of the tank across from hers being filled with different body parts floating around, sending her into a screaming fit and realizing that her own oxygen tank is off.

Without a lot of context to the show and not knowing what is going on, the scene is particularly frightening because it seems that, like Game of Thrones, no character is safe. Melantha seems to be an important part of the story, talking to the characters we thought were going to get to know more.

So to see her struggling to breathe, seemingly dying at the hands of an unknown force? What are we supposed to believe? Is it the L1? Some other kind of thing targeting the crew of the Nightflyer? Luckily, Lommie senses what is happening and runs to Melantha, breaking into her room and getting her out of the tank before she drowns.

What’s interesting though is, once she’s free of the tank, the floating body parts are not in the tank next to hers, instead showing Melantha’s decapitated head. Suddenly, it is just the plain water that was there when she got into her own tank.

The scene does its job in making us fear for every member of this team and whatever it is that’s targeting the crew and trying to kill them (or at least frighten them). From there, we were set.
