Tom Holland will star in Pixar’s newest film, so just hand it an Oscar now

Disney announced that its next Pixar movie will have a huge list of celebrities, including Tom Holland. It’s set for 2020, but we can smell the Oscars buzz already.

First, Tom Holland joined the legendary ranks of movies like Iron Man and Black Panther by being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man. Now, he’s joining the mega-legendary ranks of movies like Toy Story, Finding Nemo and the Incredibles by joining the Disney-Pixar universe.

Disney Studios announced on Wednesday its plans for a new Pixar movie called Onward slated for 2020. That feels like the release is eons away, even as we approach the end of 2018. But the cast of the movie makes the more-than-one-year wait totally worth it.

The film stars Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Octavia Spencer and, of course, Tom Holland.

Not much beyond the movie’s title, cast and release date has been revealed so far. At least, we have small synopsis of the story, as revealed by Entertainment Weekly:

"Two teenage elf brothers… embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there."

With so little revealed, Tom Holland still took to Instagram to share his excitement about the movie, and even quiz people on the cast. (Spoiler alert, Holland, we already saw the cast list. Sorry to ruin the fun.)

In the Instagram video, Holland says, “I am lucky enough to be making a Pixar movie. It is called, Onward; it will be released in theaters March 6, 2020. And I’m so excited to be part of this amazing journey.”

Still, with little known about the film, we can already see this as being an Oscars front-runner in the animation category. It goes without saying, every year, Disney finds its way into the Best Animated Picture category. This year alone, they hold two spots with Pixar’s Incredibles 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet. In the unlikely event that Pixar goes and pulls a Lonely Dinosaur or Planes on this movie, we can already see an Oscar nomination (or even win) in this movie’s future.

Fans are enthusiastic about this movie already. And it’s no wonder that both Disney and Pixar made this year’s Fandom 250 list. Not only did those two rank in our top fandoms in the world, but of course, the Tom Holland fandom landed on the list this year by showing their enthusiasm. With this energy, it looks like these fandoms can make it on the list well through 2020.
