The Good Place: We finally get to see the real Good Place
The Good Place gave us its midseason finale with a fun cliffhanger, as always. If we’ve really made it to the actual Good Place, what will it hold?
The Good Place doesn’t return until January 10 on NBC, but we can certainly spend the next month theorizing the heck out of what might happen.
Last week’s midseason finale ended on yet another show-stopping cliffhanger. After discovering that no one has made it into the Good Place in over 500 years, Michael realizes that it’s up to him to fix things.
So he shoves everyone into a mail tube that leads directly to the Good Place offices. And we know it’s really the Good Place because Eleanor can’t swear. Son of a bench!
Mike Schur has always assured us that the Good Place does actually exist. But this will be our first time actually seeing it. While we’ve only seen one room so far — should we call it the mail room — there’s already a lot to discuss.

1. Is anyone still manning the mail room?
One of the things most noticeable about it is that there are far too many piles of letters, notes, papers… well, everywhere. Piles and piles.
Meaning that the workers there have either stopped caring, locked themselves out of the room, or are just plain kidnapped by Bad Place goons.
Part of me feels like they just locked themselves out of the room and they’re too nice to try to blame anyone or find the key to get back in.
2. How did the Bad Place tamper with things?
That’s a very loaded question, and I definitely don’t have the answer. The Head Accountant showed us that there’s no way to tamper with the system, but what if the basis of the system itself was tampered with?
The Bad Place already proved it can hack into pretty much anything–the Judge’s feed of Earth and also building an illegal back door to Earth, just to name two things. Maybe weird sex things shouldn’t be so many negative points. Or everything just tallies wrong.

3. Maybe it’s not the system… but the fact that no one’s there?
What if the only way someone gets into either place is that they respond to the letters sent from the Accounting office?
The Bad Place is all for torturing people. Of course, they would respond to the results immediately.
But if the Bad Place pulled some shenanigans over 500 years ago and locked everyone out of the Good Place mail room… what if people have been getting in, but no one’s responded, so they default to the Bad Place? (Or to a medium place until their fate is decided?)
There is absolutely something amiss, that we already know. It doesn’t feel like it can be as simple as Michael unlocking a door, but maybe it is.
And then season 4 will just be the war between the Good and Bad Places.
