But what if the Skrull is good?

Obviously, if Carol Danvers is actually a Skrull, but the Skrull is a benevolent creature, then we can expect the Skrull imposter to act just like Captain Marvel. However, that would likely lead to a monumental reveal later in the MCU — and an even larger identity crisis for that Skrull.

Regardless, the other notable Mar-Vell imposter in comic history, Khn’nr, was technically a hero. Despite the Skrulls’ overarching obsession with invading other planets, the Skrull known as Khn’nr legitimately thought that he was Captain Marvel while he was masquerading as Mar-Vell.

See, Khn’nr’s transition to replicating Mar-Vell was unusual from the start. Not only did he take on the Kree hero’s physical features and powers, but he also took on the same cancer that afflicted Mar-Vell.

While his fellow Skrull soldiers were embedding Mar-Vell’s memories into Khn’nr’s mind, he woke up during the pseudo-medical procedure. In doing so, Khn’nr’s real memories were destroyed and entirely replaced by Mar-Vell’s memories. Thus, he thought he was Mar-Vell.

This obviously led him to fight and kill the Skrulls he was supposed to help, but he also went on to aid the Mighty Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. in numerous missions. Although it’s unlikely that Captain Marvel will replicate this replica-related narrative entirely, if Carol is a Skrull, and memories that the Kree implanted there, to begin with, could negatively impact or even erase the Captain Marvel imposter’s Skrull memories.
