Captain Marvel: Could she be a Skrull and does it even matter?
Now that we’ve properly digested the two Captain Marvel questions, we have a lot of questions. Is Goose a Flerken? Is Jude Law Mar-Vell or Yon-Rogg? But most importantly: Could Carol Danvers be a Skrull?
We might be overly suspicious of anything Marvel-related at this point, but comics and comic book movies are the sources of our trust issues. With the impending Kree-Skrull war inching closer, we’ve been thinking a lot about Skrulls. Scott Lang is one of the prime suspects on our Skrull watchlist. However, Captain Marvel could be a Skrull, too.
We get it: Carol Danvers is supposed to be the hero in her titular movie. However, being a Skrull doesn’t necessarily mean that Carol is evil or that she knows she’s even. Though there are few good Skrulls in Marvel Comics history, not every Skrull follows the warmonger Talos. Since Carol Danvers (and most heroes who’ve donned the Captain Marvel suit and alias) has had a complicated history with the Kree and Skrulls alike, it isn’t unlikely that the Skrull would try and succeed in capturing Carol during her film.
There’s a reason the Kree want Carol Danvers to align with their side of the Kree-Skull War, and that’s because Vers is the strongest hero currently in the MCU. Naturally, the Skrull would want a powerful soldier on their side. Unlike the Kree who will likely brainwash and weaponize Captain Marvel in the film, the Skrulls would try to capture her and harness her memorize so that one of their super-Skrull warriors could emulate her personality, appearance, and abilities and destroy the Kree from within.
However, just like the Kree and Skrulls have a complicated history with one another, the Skrulls’ comic counterparts have had an arduous history with imitating certain heroes’ likenesses. Naturally, we rewatched the Captain Marvel trailers and reread dozens of comics to sleuth if Carol is actually a Skrull.
