Crazy Ex-Girlfriend review: Yep, he’s back (or Greg returns to West Covina)

After two years of wondering what was happening with Greg, Mr. Serrano himself has finally returned to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and just in time to confuse Rebecca.

Love is in the air for pretty much everyone on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend this week. Well, everyone except Josh Chan. Rebecca is still trying to deal with her feelings for Josh and Nathaniel, and agrees to help make pretzels for Josh’s high school reunion. When she shows up, she doesn’t expect to see a familiar face that isn’t that familiar anymore.

Greg Serrano is back and Rebecca is the only one who seems to think that he’s completely changed. So much so that she doesn’t recognize him at first. But eventually, the two go to have a conversation while Josh jumps up to recite his speech that is just him explaining the plot of The King’s Speech to the entire room.

When this is happening, Greg decides that he wants to catch up with Rebecca and the two go to her pretzel shop to talk for a while. The problem? Rebecca hasn’t told Greg that she slept with his father. So, in her attempt to tell everyone the truth, she has to admit to Greg that she slept with Marco after he butt dialed her one night.

The two have a wonderful song that is a series of meet-cutes to start their relationship over fresh and, if you’re like me, the Greg and Rebecca feelings came back in full force throughout their interaction. After all, Greg is back in West Covina until after the holidays (which end at Valentine’s Day?) so he’ll be around for a while.

Meanwhile, Josh and Hector fight when Hector wants Josh to cool it with the prom king stuff. The problem is that Josh wasn’t really prom king, but White Josh was. And so when Hector tells him out of anger, Josh has to go find someone else to hang out with. That person just so happens to be George who has a magic club that Josh suddenly wants to be a part of.

The episode ends with Rebecca finally telling Greg the truth and him admitting that maybe they both have changed, Josh trying to fit in with George and his friends and oh, that’s right, Father Brah used to be in love with Valencia and the two shared a moment talking about how their time together had passed. So it was one pretty wild 12-year high school reunion.

There was a lovely bit throughout the episode where the characters would react to a question by saying that they’ll be in the show for the rest of the series or relate back to a previous season.

What’s going to happen with Rebecca and Greg? Is she going to be able to pick between the three men or will she actually just choose herself and start to make a better life for herself? We’ll have to wait and see when Crazy Ex-Girlfriend returns to the CW this Jan.11.
