We knew whatever Avengers 4 had in store for us would be devastating, and we were right. In fact, with the arrival of the trailer, we now know we are in for more heartbreak.
Welcome to the end. It is the end of an era; the end of the Avengers as we know them, and of course just simply the end. With the arrival of the first official trailer for Avengers Endgame, we now know that what we saw in Infinity War was just the beginning of our heartbreak.
We don’t even have to tell you how emotional this first trailer is, social media has done it for us. From the second the video started playing, we were choked up with emotion, and definitely had the chills. Hearing Tony Stark so defeated, speaking to “Ms. Potts” (cue the tears right here!) and telling her that, “part of the journey is the end,” was an instant understanding that it really is almost over.
After more than 20 movies, we are finally at the end of days (at least for the heroes we have grown to love), and with every second of this trailer, it became even more clear that after everything that has happened, we are going to lose some of our favorites for good.
And even with the return of Ant-Man (thank you to the Russo brothers for that bit of humor), and the arrival of Jeremy Renner’s Ronin, now that everything has changed, even if the Avengers ultimately find a way to win, they are still going to lose. Just look at the glimpse we get of Thor. He has lost everything, and his pain is clear as day without him ever speaking a single word.
And clearly the fans know that no matter what the outcome of Avengers: Endgame, there will still be losses. On social media, a lot of the reactions to the trailer have been just as heartbreaking as the trailer itself. The fans already know we are in for more pain, and none of us are ready.
Thor has got the biggest regret and frankly biggest torture amongst the avengers.

He has to live with the regret of not going for the head.
He will feel like everything is somehow his fault.

This scene broke me. He has readied himself for the inevitable. He is in hell inside his mind with the burden of failure, losing his son (Peter Parker) losing strange and the hopelessness of his defeat.

And talk about finding a way to channel Ariana Grande, right? There were plenty of these on Twitter, with people pointing out the ultimate fourth lesson we would be getting.

Tony: “When I drift off I will dream about you. It’s always been you.”
Thor: *sat alone because he's lost everything*
Nat: *on the brink of crying*
Bruce: *nearly crying at pictures of Shuri and Peter*
Steve: *Actually crying*

Even wanting this trailer for as long as we have, none of us were prepared for the level of devastation and heartbreak it would bring with it. After seeing Thanos’ snap in action and watching so many characters turn to dust, we just were not ready for the emotional impact, or what it would mean for those left behind.
And while there was a spot of good news that came with the trailer, thanks to the reveal that the movie will be out in April instead of May, we are still too upset to appreciate that news as we should. Instead, we are going to go watch the trailer again a few hundred more times and cry in the corner.
