Ryan Murphy confirms the Coven will return to American Horror Story

Ryan Murphy just confirmed the lovely women of AHS’ Coven will be back in a future season. Let the fan theories roll in.

At the end of American Horror Story: Apocalypse, most of our favorite witches including Supreme Cordelia survived. While we’d argue Apocalypse was a less than stellar AHS tale, many fans wondered if the horror series would do anything further with the Coven later on — or if their stories were done for good.

Well, fans of these witchy women can rejoice as Ryan Murphy has confirmed there will be more Coven tales to come in the anthology series.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight during Murphy’s Walk of Fame induction, Murphy said that “The witches will be back, not next season though. But, we have something really fun planned.”

Despite having to wait, Coven fans are pretty excited for the chance to see their witchy favorites again, from Cordelia to her girls including Queenie, Zoe and Madison. It’s also very likely that more information on Mallory, played by Billie Lourd, will be given and explored.

Since Cordelia is still the Supreme at the end of Apocalypse, a new season could tell the story of the next Supreme or even explore as the witches try to stop another Antichrist as was hinted at the end of Apocalypse. It would be an interesting choice to not follow up on that cliffhanger, but, at the same time, doing another season with a very similar premise might feel redundant.

It would also be amazing if Fiona Goode, played by Jessica Lange, could make an appearance again, even if it is in a flashback. While we will have to wait a while for more details as we still don’t even know what’s in store for the upcoming season, fans can start speculating on what a new season with the witches will entail as well as what they would like to see.

For myself, I have mixed feelings about this announcement. While I love the characters such as Cordelia very much and have liked being able to grow more attached to them, I worry that the stories could grow stagnant or boring. It starts to take away from the idea of an anthology series if every season going forward is just a rehash of previous seasons. But, it’s too early to say what direction American Horror Story will go with the Coven and these characters at this point, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
