Our Wonder Woman of the Week this week is Jameela Jamil for speaking up about an issue that is so important and having the guts to be honest about it.
Jameela Jamil is a wonderful actress who has won over the hearts of many fans by playing Tahani Al-Jamil on The Good Place. Many people love the character, and they love her actress even more. She has been rather active on social media and has often spoken up about issues impacting women such as body image and how society expects women to look and behave.
Recently, she’s been outspoken about an issue that impacts women that many people might not think about. She has been criticizing stars, such as Cardi B and Khloé Kardashian, who promote weight loss detox teas and claim that these drinks will help people lose weight easily. Jamil has taken issue with these promos, saying that these teas are bad for people’s bodies and don’t actually promote weight loss. Instead, they just make people have to go to the bathroom…a lot.
Jamil has pointed out how most of these celebrities have never even used these products, and they are just promoting them to make money. But, these ads can have detrimental impacts on many young woman who see the promotions as more pressure to look thin and find anyway to make that happen.
She has been talking about the issue on Twitter, and this week she posted a hilarious video to Twitter that seeks to tell the truth about these weight loss products.
In the video, she acts out having severe diarrhea because of the detox drink and sheds some light on the less glamorous side of these products. The video is pretty funny and also very candid, and we love Jamil for being unafraid to take on this topic and be so brave about it.
She then went on to explain why the issue is so important to her and how she will not stop talking about it just because it makes some people uncomfortable. She points out that this issue matters because it impacts real people. Jamil clearly cares about how these kind of messages impact women, and she wants to do something to change it by using her platform.
She also pointed out that she isn’t trying to get anyone “canceled.” Jamil was honest about how she is growing and learning herself and that none of us are perfect when it comes to social justice issues.
We love how she is taking on this issue with such honesty and still has compassion and empathy at the same time! We can’t wait to see how Jamil continues to use her celebrity voice to bring light to important issues.
