New Vision and Scarlet Witch series might have a dark ending
Marvel’s new Scarlet Witch show includes Vision in the title, which could mean a dark ending for the two Avengers, who have a sad fate in the comics.
With its 20+ films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has proven itself a force to be reckoned with. But over the past superhero-packed decade, there has been a conspicuous lack of women in any title roles. That will change with the release of Captain Marvel in 2019, but Carol Danvers is new to the MCU. What about all those favorite fighting females we already know?
Enter Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+. This highly anticipated library will not only include all Marvel content up to date, but it will also premier several brand new series. Including a newly announced show for Marvel’s powerful mutant, Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen. According to Deadline, the new show will be called Vision and the Scarlet Witch and will be released sometime next year, giving – for the first time – a supporting female Avenger a title role of her own.
Scarlet Witch, whose real name is Wanda Maximoff, first appeared alongside her brother, Quicksilver, in the credit scene of 2014’s Captain America: the Winter Soldier. She officially joined the Avengers crew in Avengers: Age of Ultron and quickly proved herself to be one of the most powerful characters, capable of altering reality and manipulating energy.
While no details have been provided about the new series, the inclusion of Vision in the title is a significant detail. Vision, the Mind Stone-powered android played by Paul Bettany, has been Scarlet Witch’s romantic interest in the Avengers films. In the heart-wrenching conclusion to this year’s Avengers: Infinity War, she was forced to kill him in an effort to thwart Thanos from collecting all six Infinity Stones.
And now they’re apparently going to get a series together. But it may be too early to celebrate a romantic reunion of these two mismatched outcasts, especially if you’re familiar with the Vision/Scarlet Witch comic story line. While their romance and eventual marriage and family has some “aww” moments, it also gets pretty dark, with Vision ending up creating his own android wife and kids after Wanda leaves him. Yeah, that’s kind of messed up.
Whether or not Vision and the Scarlet Witch will cover this future or introduce brand new material is unknown, but one thing is for sure. With a woman in the lead as well as a potential husband-wife story line, we have exciting new things to look forward to from Marvel.
