Star Wars Episode IX: Get a behind-the-scenes look courtesy of Ava DuVernay
Thanks to director Ava DuVernay, Star Wars fans hungry for anything related to Episode IX have something new to look at: Victoria Mahoney’s office.
Star Wars fans know that if they pay attention to social media, they’ll pick things up — like how filming has picked back up in Pinewood Studios once more. Today’s reveal might not be quite as big, but it may end up to be more interesting once we actually get to see Episode IX.
That’s because it’s actually a look at the second-unit director’s offices. Director Ava DuVernay paid a visit and must not have captured anything too immediately revealing, because she posted not one, but six photos of Victoria Mahoney’s office (no luck for any look at J.J. Abrams’ office … yet).
DuVernay does notably say that she sees “the sign of a happy set,” and if nothing else, Mahoney looks like she’s in a pretty great mood in the photos below:
The greatest image in here is the excellent one of Darth Vader in a pink fur coat. Culturess Editor-in-Chief Sharareh Drury suggests there needs to be a Pop! figure of this, and yours truly would totally buy one.
But before you start freaking out about the opening crawl beneath that image, do not: it’s the opening crawl to The Force Awakens, specifically the first paragraph, which notably mentions Luke Skywalker and the First Order. We do know that Mark Hamill is indeed back for IX, presumably in a Force ghost capacity.
Under the crawl appears to be a shot from inside the Millennium Falcon, which Rey still has possession of along with Chewbacca. Fans over on the r/StarWarsLeaks subreddit have also found the source of the poem on the very top part of the collage — it’s from Rumi, specifically. Of course, fans have started to guess at what it means, with one bringing up the idea of grey Jedi specifically. Another Reddit user found a photo of Han’s dice among the images.
On a note that’s not related to Star Wars, though, Mahoney also has Michelle Obama’s Becoming on her desk. It might not have any bearing on Episode IX, but it might very well be what she reads in her downtime.
Tell us what you see in the collage. Star Wars Episode IX arrives in 2019.
