His entire life, Harry Potter has tried to reconnect with his mother and father and even as an adult, he’s still trying to find a way to be with James and Lily.
Harry Potter loves his family, that much is clear. Whether it is the parents he never got to really know or the makeshift family he makes with the Weasleys and Hermione, he always wants to make sure those around him are happy with what he is doing.
That being said, there always seems to be a void in Harry’s life that he can’t quite fill and that is very clearly his parents.
If you haven’t seen Harry Potter and the Cursed Child yet, beware. There are spoilers for the show here and what happens with Harry.
When Harry has to go into the past to save his son, he is confronted with a part of his history that he’s never had to look at head-on: the death of his parents. Sure, it has continually weighed down on him, cursing him to a life of defending the wizarding world, but he’s never looked at their death and its effect on him.
In Cursed Child though, Harry has to sit and look at his parents and watch them die without being able to do anything to help stop it. A grown Harry Potter has to see his mom for the first time and watch her die without being able to do anything about it.
Harry Potter is the kind of character who just wants to reach out and understand the life he could have had had Voldemort not destroyed his family and it is so heartbreaking to see.
You can see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway and in the West End now.
