Richard Madden reliving the Red Wedding sums Game of Thrones up
The expressions on Richard Madden’s face as he watches the Red Wedding are perhaps the most accurate depictions of being a Game of Thrones fan ever.
Richard Madden is having enough of a pop culture moment to score the cover of British GQ‘s next issue, and, as is often the case these days, got in front of a camera to shoot video as well as photos. The photos are excellent, but the video is somewhat brutal, in the sense that it involves Madden actually watching none other than the Red Wedding.
Honestly, “let’s hope I don’t cry today” adequately sums up going into any form of entertainment content these days, from listening to Dear Evan Hansen to reading the latest romance novel to yes, watching Game of Thrones. Entertainment has always tried to make us feel something, but with social media’s rise, it’s become easier than ever to share how it really does impact our emotions. Kudos to him for being open about it.
Spoilers: He doesn’t cry … at least on camera, though he does get a bit misty-eyed. Just watch his expressions and try not to make the same ones. We’ll also repeat the warning that the footage from the Red Wedding does get replayed, blood and all.
Pretty much every single one of his reactions is GIF-worthy.
It also doesn’t seem like he’s really forgotten much about being on Game of Thrones. Listen to how many tidbits he puts in about everything from getting fake blood off of his hands to the aftermath of filming the scene. Honestly, who doesn’t need the image of a bloody Madden sitting on a plane crying his eyes out? One imagines he at least took his costume off, but from the sound of things, he may not have.
Perhaps the best part of this video, and others like it, though, is in getting to hear how much actors appreciate other actors. Madden spends a lot of this video just praising Michelle Fairley, which should make Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire fans lament the lack of Lady Stoneheart in the show even more.
Either way, here’s hoping that the final season of Game of Thrones makes us cry somehow.
