Carla Gugino talks The Haunting of Hill House and how she would definitely be interested to return to a second season, in whatever form it might take.

Fans are already wondering if and when a The Haunting of Hill House season 2 will be coming along. While the creator of the series Mike Flanagan has said that he thinks he has told the Crains’ story and doesn’t think a season 2 would be about the family, some of the actors are still interested in coming back, including Carla Gugino.

Gugino and Connie Britton sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, talking about their friendship and how they have supported each other’s careers over the years. However, some of the most interesting moments from the interview were when Gugino talked more about her role on The Haunting of Hill House. When Britton brought up the role and how hard Gugino worked on the project, Gugino had this to say.

“Because I had worked with Mike, and because he was excited about what I was going to be able to bring to the table, I was able to be a part of creating some very key elements in the character [of Olivia Crain] before she was even fully written.”

When asked about playing the character again in a second season, Gugino explained her thoughts and how she would definitely be interested in returning, possibly even as a different character: “Mike Flanagan said he would be interested in the notion of an anthology, where some actors come back to play different characters. I think he feels like he has told the complete story of the Crain family. But if I was invited and I was able to, I would really love to, just because I do love to collaborate with him.”

It sounds like she’d would be more than happy to return for the future of the show, and we can’t imagine the series without her. While it would be great to see her return as Olivia, it doesn’t sound like that’s the direction Mike Flanagan wants to take. Instead, the show could use Gugino for other roles, similarly to how American Horror Story has used actresses like Sarah Paulson, for example.) It would be interesting to see her play different ghosts in a different storyline, or to have her take on a variety of roles with no common theme. Perhaps she could play someone even more truly villainous role instead of the tragic Olivia.

In the interview, Gugino and Britton also talk about how they met on the set of Spin City, and Gugino says that “Out of many great things from that experience, by far the most special is that I met my best friend.” She also went on to talk about the importance of storytelling and how stories can inspire people and empower them: “At a young age, you need to see somebody that is doing something that you hope you can do but aren’t even sure what it looks like yet. It paves the path.”

We would love to see more of Gugino in the series, in a new role or the same one, and we really can’t wait for a season 2. Hopefully, there will be more news on what a season 2 could bring in the near future. What would you like to see for the future of The Haunting of Hill House?
