Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
We all love the Harry Potter franchise, so obviously there was no hesitation to add a scene from the second movie, The Chamber of Secrets, to our list. A lot of Potterheads may already know this, but one of the best burns delivered by Draco Malfoy himself just so happened to be improvised by Tom Felton.
In this scene, Harry and Ron are pretending to be Malfoy’s lackeys, Crabbe and Goyle, thanks to a polyjuice potion concocted by Hermione. However, Harry mistakenly leaves his glasses on, an accessory that the real Goyle does not wear. Noticing this new feature, Malfoy asks Goyle why he’s wearing glasses, to which Goyle (but really Harry) responds “Reading.” Felton, fortunately for us, forgot his line in response to this statement and decided to say what he thought Draco would say, “I didn’t think you could read.”
Although we’re curious to know what the original line was supposed to be, we’re still pretty satisfied that he was able to come up with a hilarious and very memorable burn on the spot. It might even beat the scene in The Deathly Hallows Part 2 where Voldemort awkwardly hugs Malfoy. Yes, that was in fact improvised too. Thanks to Ralph Fiennes, Malfoy’s look of confusion is completely genuine since Tom didn’t know it was happening.
