Star Wars Resistance preview: Meet Yeager’s brother

Yeager is asked to race in the “Platform Classic,” but he has no interest in racing. To make matters worse, a familiar face from his past shows up.

Captain Doza seeks out Yeager for help again. Last week, he needed Yeager’s crew to fix the tracking system. Although the Colossus suffered some serious damage as a result of the pirate attack, he and his team got the job done. This time, he wants Yeager to race in a competition that comes with a prize of 100,000 credits.

While Doza says the money is for boosting the economy in the Colossus, we’re inclined to think the opposite. Doza lives in an ivory tower. He and everyone else who resides there does not have to worry about the conditions the rest of the residents have to deal with on a daily basis in the Colossus. Winning this money could help continue the divide between the rich and the poor. That said, he could be telling the truth to Yeager, but we just have a hard time believing him.

Doza also mentions the ace pilots have been entered into competition, but he’s not relying on any of them to win. Not even his own daughter. He knows firsthand Yeager is the best of the best. So even though Hype Fazon is considered the best pilot on the platform, Yeager could technically beat him without breaking a sweat. Which begs the question, why did Yeager stop racing? He and his crew could be living in Doza tower, but instead, they barely scrape by.

There is one other pilot who could come close, but Yeager has a difficult relationship with him. His name is Marcus Speedstar, Yeager’s brother.

Watch Marcus Speedstar’s introduction in this recent clip:

According to Doza, Marcus is the 3-time winner of the Five Sabers, a piloting championship that was once overseen by Han Solo in the Bloodline novel by Claudia Gray. It’s always fun to see references of that nature pop up in the animated shows.

Marcus also says “it’s been almost 10 years” since he and Yeager had seen each other. That’s a long time to go without seeing a family member. Whatever happened between them must have been something serious. Or maybe, Yeager and Marcus just don’t see eye to eye when it comes to racing. Yeager does things by the book. Marcus goes for the glory, sort of like Hype Fazon. Those kinds of differences tend to drive people away from each other, even if they are related.

We ultimately don’t know what that separated them, but they certainly have different outlooks on life. Yeager prefers to keep to himself, whereas Marcus appears to be someone who soaks in the fame and goes after the money. With 100,000 credits on the line as well as the fact that he’s entangled with the Guavian Death Gang, chances are Marcus isn’t looking for a warm welcome. He’s looking to make sure he can win the race.

We’ll have to wait and see if he does and if Yeager will teach his brother a lesson in the process. We also look forward to seeing Yeager at his best. Thinking back to the episode “Fuel for the Fire,” he had so many racing awards sitting on his shelves. Even though he’s just a mechanic now, Yeager is a natural ace pilot and we can’t wait to see him take off into the skies.
