In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actress Alison Sudol shares that she doesn’t think her character is evil. This is a young woman who wants choice. Her relationship with Jacob is illegal under American Wizarding Law and Grindelwald has made a promise: that option to choose. That’s all she wants more out of the world.
At one point during the interview, Sudol explains:
"“I don’t believe she’s turning evil. It’s more like she’s trying to find somebody who is giving her an option. He’s manipulating her but he’s manipulating everybody. He even did that with Dumbledore.”"
And this is the important part. Grindelwald is a master manipulator. He has built this following, almost like a cult. He has people who would usually fight on the side of good following him for a promise of a “better world.”
It’s a sense of “the grass is always greener on the other side.” So many “what ifs” are likely running through Queenie’s mind, but there’s one important one that’s driving her forward right now: what if Grindelwald can give her the option to be with Jacob?
It could be possible to make the world a better place and that’s what she wants. Queenie is one of those who will fight on the side of what she believes is right and that’s what she’s doing now.
