LOS ANGELES, CA – OCTOBER 15: Jameela Jamil attends ELLE’s 25th Annual Women In Hollywood Celebration presented by L’Oreal Paris, Hearts On Fire and CALVIN KLEIN at Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills on October 15, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. If you haven’t watched The Good Place yet, close this tab, open Netflix, and binge it right away before you come back here. The entire show, including Jameela Jamil as Tahani, is genius. Any member of the ensemble would be an excellent choice of dinner guest, but Jameela Jamil has a leg up over her competition.

Jameela Jamil got cast on The Good Place with no acting experience, and yet, she still brings Tahani to life in a way that no other actress would be able to. But even off the set, she is still someone that we would love to welcome into our home. Jamil is a staunch advocate for body positivity and feminism, and she has called out the media and celebrities that she feels are harmful influences, like the Kardashians and their promotion of things like flat belly teas and appetite suppressant lollipops.

Her campaign, I Weigh, encourages women to measure their self-worth by their accomplishments, their skills, and their intelligence instead of their weight. Jamil started the campaign because she was sick of seeing women being reduced to just their looks and their bodies. She has since made an effort to not allow airbrushing on any of her photoshoots. She went into great detail about why she’s so passionate about this topic, including her struggles with eating disorders as a teen, on Ways to Change the World with Krishnan Guru-Murthy (which you should definitely check out).

We could listen to Jamil talk for hours, but she’s not just intelligent and well-spoken. Judging from her interviews and her Instagram stories, she has a real sense of humor, too. She’s not afraid to make fun of herself or post unflattering pictures to get a laugh, and that’s why we love her. She once wore her pajamas for an interview on Good Morning America, and if that’s not relatable, what is?
