Is Credence really a Dumbledore? A look at the timeline to see if it’s possible

A huge question needs to be answered. Is Credence really a Dumbledore? An examination of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts timeline may have the answer.

So the ending of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has caught Wizarding World fans off guard. Credence is apparently Aurelius Dumbledore, a brother that we never heard off throughout the entire Harry Potter franchise. Can it really be true though? Is Credence really a Dumbledore?

Well if we take a look at the known timeline of the Wizarding World, this is what we know about the Dumbledore family. A secretive family that lived in Godric’s Hollow.

• Albus Dumbledore, born in 1881, his parents were Percival and Kendra Dumbledore. He had a brother and sister, Aberfoth and Ariana.
• Aberforth Dumbledore, born c. 1883, his parents were Percival and Kendra Dumbledore.
• Ariana Dumbledore, born c.1885, her parents were Percival and Kendra Dumbledore. She died 1899.
• Percival Dumbledore was arrested and sent to Azkaban in 1891 after attacking a group of muggles who had attacked Ariana when she was only six.
• Kendra Dumbledore died in 1899 when Ariana Dumbledore was only 14 after she had one of her magical outbursts.
• Now flicking our attention back to Credence and Credence’s adoption certificate lists his year of birth as 1904.

So, looking at the official timeline on Pottermore, the writings of J.K. Rowling in Harry Potter, and the official props created by MinaLima Designs for the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald movie we have an answer to the question is Credence really a Dumbledore?

No, Credence cannot be a Dumbledore. Kendra Dumbledore had died in 1899 and Percival Dumbledore died shortly after being imprisoned in Azkaban. So no, Credence cannot be Dumbledore’s brother.

At least not in the simplest of ways. This is, of course, J.K. Rowling who has written the story. And if Harry Potter is anything to go by, Fantastic Beasts will twist and turn and have a surprise for us that we cannot see coming.

So Credence very well could be a Dumbledore, just not according to the timeline that we have right now.
