Michelle Obama visits Ellen DeGeneres for hilarious Costco book signing
Michelle Obama visited Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday for a hilarious episode featuring a Costco expedition, complete with a book signing.
When Michelle Obama and Ellen DeGeneres get together, it’s time to expect the unexpected. The two wise, witty, and wonderful women surpassed expectations on Thursday’s episode of The Ellen Show.
During the show, Obama and DeGeneres visited Costco, which is selling her newest book Becoming. But it was DeGeneres’ antics together with the Former First Lady’s sense of humor that delighted viewers, pointed out Entertainment Weekly.
It’s off to Costco for Michelle Obama and Ellen
DeGeneres didn’t rise to fame by being the shy and silent type. As the talk show host and Obama visited Costco, DeGeneres stole the spotlight from those free food samples.
Grabbing a megaphone, the talk show host called out to customers, “We have Michelle Obama! She’ll be signing books!”
And when Ellen screams, people listen.
Michelle Obama fans and Ellen Show enthusiasts are thrilled
Customers at Costco started screaming with excitement at the announcement from DeGeneres.
Both the talk show host and the Former First Lady are extremely popular. But fans who waited in line to get Obama to sign their copies of her book Becoming probably expected the author’s signature.
DeGeneres didn’t agree with that philosophy, making an attempt to sign the Former First Lady’s books with her own autograph. Oops.
“Ellen, you can’t sign my book!” the author scolded.
However, Obama then gave a fan a choice, asking whether she desired “an Ellen-signed Michelle Obama book or do you want a Michelle Obama-signed Michelle Obama book?”
First Lady gets side-tracked by the “nobody-does-it-better” Ellen DeGeneres
As First Lady, Obama was known for staying focused on the issues. But when she was in the White House, she didn’t have DeGeneres by her side.
The talk show host successfully upset Obama with antics including:
- Tear pages from the book and offering them as free samples
- Taking a flask from a hollow copy of the book
- Totally embarrassing the former First Lady by reading pretend sections of the book that were really from a romance story.
Ultimate highlight: DeGeneres takes a keyboard and offers up a serenade with lyrics such as “Michelle Obama wrote a book. She mentions Oprah [Winfrey] several times and me only once!”
However, we suspect that all was forgiven by Obama when the scenario ended with a chant from the crowd saying, “We miss the Obamas!”
Michelle Obama’s book Becoming is out now wherever books are sold. And with Obama being on a national tour, you might want to look out for her at your local bookstore (or Costco).
