Charmed preview: The Charmed sisters band together

The next episode of Charmed, “Kappa Spirit”, will see Mel, Maggie and Macy unite stronger than ever as they battle personal struggles.

The preview released by The CW for this week’s Charmed shows that Mel will continue to grieve and deal with the loss of her girlfriend, Niko. During last week’s episode, the girls performed a time-altering spell meaning Mel and Niko never met. We’ve seen Mel tackle issues with her love life on the show before but we’ve never seen the character entirely alone so it will be interesting to see how Mel deals with it. She will need to discover a way to navigate through life with the weight of this loss, and the preview indicates that her sisters will be by her side to lift her up.

The preview clip shows Macy and Maggie removing bed covers from Mel, likely urging her to get out of bed. Mel is clearly going through something devastating, potentially causing her to cut herself off from the outside world. She might want to be left alone but it seems that her sisters are not going to let her rot away. Maggie is shown listening to and comforting Mel, using her powers of telepathy to feel and understand her sorrow.

Maggie has continuously shown that she is an important figure for her two older sisters, being the supportive and friendly character that she is, and being able to feel real empathy using her powers. Even though her magical ability isn’t as active as her sisters’, she has shown herself to be essential in keeping the family together, and keeping her sisters’ mental and emotional health a priority. This will consequently improve focus and concentration, improving their witch powers in the long run.

It seems that this week’s episode of Charmed will steer away from the demonic enemies closing in on the girls, and focus on the sisters and their social and personal lives instead. Maggie, after revealing to her sorority leader that she kissed her boyfriend, has been kicked out of Kappa, and the preview indicates that we might see even more consequences of her mistake. Lucy, the Kappa leader, attempts to pour a jug of drink onto Maggie in a club. However, Maggie’s sisters are by her side and Mel freezes time before it lands on her.

Being socially shunned and embarrassed in front of a crowd is one of Maggie’s worst nightmares, and Mel must be aware of this and comes to her rescue. With the girls each dealing with their own struggles, it looks as though they will join together and form “the most magical sisterhood around” as Mel puts it. Previously having such high regard for Kappa, maybe Maggie will finally accept that her sisters are more important and learn to leave her old life in the sorority behind.
