“Carol of the Bells” – Pentatonix

Around Christmastime, you hear a lot of covers of the same songs. Everyone is telling Santa what they want for Christmas or singing about jingle bells or silent nights, but one song that doesn’t get nearly enough attention is “Carol of the Bells,” mostly because the song is a bit more operatic than the usual pop covers. But that didn’t stop the members of a cappella group Pentatonix from putting their own spin on it!

Pentatonix did its own cover of “Carol of the Bells” on their YouTube page back in 2012, and the song appeared as a bonus track on their 2014 Christmas album That’s Christmas to Me. It really takes an a cappella group to cover a song like this, because not only can they nail the vocals, they can also recreate all the instruments with just their mouths! The song is beautiful to begin with, but PTX manage to put a little more of a modern twist on it, which is hard to do on a song like “Carol of the Bells.”

I could’ve included any of Pentatonix’s covers, because their a cappella renditions always make songs a little more interesting, but I figured why not give some attention to a song that doesn’t get the attention it deserves on modern Christmas albums?
