Will Stan Lee have a cameo in Avengers 4?
By Mia Johnson
Many fans are saddened by Stan Lee’s passing but are hopeful they’ll be able to see the king of cameos one last time. For Avengers 4, there might be hope yet.
Some say the best way to know that you lived a good life is by the legacy you leave and your impact on others. And it’s clear to see Stan Lee has such a deep-rooted legacy that he’ll live on forever in the hearts of his fans. That being said, some fans are still hopeful that they can get one last miracle from Stan Lee, even in his passing, and that is to see one final appearance from this king of cameos.
Can we expect to see Stan Lee in films like Avengers 4 following his death? Get happy, Marvel fans, because all signs are starting to point to “yes.”
In an interview with BBC Radio Scotland (which was resurfaced by MCU Cosmic), Avengers 4 director Joe Russo spoke about the process of filming Lee’s cameos. In that interview (which is currently unavailable, though the link is still active), MCU Cosmic recounts Joe Russo explaining:
"So, Stan, typically we try to get him out — he doesn’t love to fly — so we try to get him out for his cameos around the same time.So if we have other movies shooting on the same lot that we’re on, for instance Ant-Man 2 or Avengers 4, we group his cameos together and then move him from one set to the next and kind of get him through his cameos in one day."
While the audio interview is offline, other sources (such as CBR and Screen Rant) published the same quote from when the interview went live in April of this year. As both CBR and Screen Rant’s headlines mentions, Lee had at least three cameos planned between early April 2018 and 2019. With Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp already out, Avengers 4 is safe as the third movie on that list.
But that interview did not mention the other two movies coming out in 2019, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Both movies have already wrapped filming. Captain Marvel‘s first trailer already arrived in September, and Tom Holland let us know that Spider-Man: Far From Home wrapped just last month. There’s a good chance that Lee might have had time to get in a scene for Captain Marvel, the next Marvel movie to come out, but there’s no certainty about Far From Home.
With little movement going on with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, that also seems like an unlikely candidate for Lee to appear in. But at least we have one solid confirmation that Stan Lee will appear once again in a Marvel movie. And though we won’t get any further cameos from Lee in the future, we do have all of his past work to cherish, and future Marvel works created in his memory.
