Lady Gaga was very impacted by her role as Ally in A Star Is Born. She told Variety why she feels forever changed by the iconic role.

Lady Gaga was definitely a star before A Star Is Born, but the film secured her place as one of the most multi-talented stars of this generation. Lady Gaga can sing, act, dance, and is generally creative, inventive, and stylish. Not only that, but she’s also a star who cares deeply about activist causes such as LGBTQ rights and preventing violence against women.

If you can’t forget her performance as Ally, or those songs from A Star Is Born out of your head, you’re not the only one. Lady Gaga told Variety that she feels forever changed by the character saying, “I feel Ally inside of me. I wonder how long she’ll stay. Or if she’ll be in there forever.”

During the interview, Variety also held a photo shoot at Gaga’s home in Malibu, California (which she has since had to evacuate because of the devastating Woolsey Fire). Gaga picked out her own outfits for the shoot and the first shirt she decided on was worn by Bradley Cooper during several important scenes in the film. At the end of the film, Ally keeps the shirt, and in real life, Lady Gaga also keeps this shirt to remember the role.

Gaga admits she is still surprised by the success of A Star Is Born, which is her first movie role. While not a stranger to the screen, having starred on FX’s hit show American Horror StoryLady Gaga said this new role “has been a very transformative time for me.”

Despite her incredible success, Lady Gaga admits that yes, she has self-doubts just like the rest of us, especially those of us who are also artists and creators.

She explained how those doubts play out in her mind:

"As an artist, there’s always a feeling of ‘Am I good enough? Am I making something honest? Am I making something true?’ There is a sort of stagnant sadness in me, wondering if I’m enough. Today I did not see that. I saw something different. I saw a clarity. I saw a truth."

With awards season coming up, A Star Is Born is a serious Oscar contender, with Gaga in a good position to win a few major awards herself. Gaga even told Variety that she would be happy to perform “Shallow” on the Oscars stage if the song is nominated.

She is also more than ready for campaigning for an Oscar. After all, Gaga is a fabulous diva with an over-the-top persona.

"I used to wrap myself in an Afghan or my grandmother’s knitted blanket and stand on a podium while I watched the Oscars. I had big dreams as a child."

It’s pretty amazing that with her first movie, she is already close to living out her childhood dreams of being on the stage and winning an Oscar. Yet, even if Lady Gaga doesn’t go that far, she clearly had success with her breakout film role.

While some actors may not revel in seeing their film multiple times over, Lady Gaga is absolutely about seeing herself on the big screen. She shared that she’s seen the film around 10 times since it came out, even getting a ticket to watch the film at her local movie theater.

"I had to remove myself before the end. The film moves me so deeply. I feel so entrenched in the character that the second half of the film — without revealing what happens — is so emotional and tragic. I have to take myself out of it."

We can definitely relate to her feelings of being emotionally impacted by the film. The songs especially leave quite the emotional impact! We aren’t sure we will be able to beat Gaga for the number of times we’ve watched the film, though.
