The Black Widow solo movie is reportedly moving ahead with production, with the latest casting information revealing who the main characters will be.
Disney might be putting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on hold, but that’s not going to stop the entire Marvel train from moving along. Even with the news of Marvel Comics Stan Lee’s passing today, the MCU marches on. With the Black Widow movie soundly planned out, it looks like Marvel and Disney will be fast-tracking the movie for an even sooner production.
But before the movie can even go into production, you’ll need a cast. And lucky for the Black Widow solo film, there’s already reportedly a casting call for a few key characters in the movie.
The casting call, discovered by That Hashtag Show, has seven characters roles that need to be filled so far. At the top of their reveal is the villain, summed up by That Hashtag Show in one brief sentence:
"The villain is simply described as “exciting,” and the studio is open to ethnicity, but looking for someone in their 40s."
This kind of vagueness isn’t unfamiliar to those already in the loop with Marvel’s doings. As That Hashtag mentions, it seems like Marvel is intentionally being more and more vague about their characters’ descriptions. Of course, it’s all for good reason, as they don’t want to give away who they’re hiring just yet. But as they begin auditions, we may get word of which comic book characters they’re actually casting.
According to the article, there will also be another antagonist who will be a “conniving female villain” in her 50s. It’s possible this person might be closer to Black Widow as a person who has tormented Natasha during her hard upbringing as a young woman (just think back to her nightmare/flashback in Age of Ultron.)
Up next, the article reveals four more characters whose involvement in the film is yet to be known:
"The first is a “kick ass” female character described as a “female Bond” while the other is for a male with an emphasis on African, Middle Eastern or East Indian actors. Additionally, the search is on for one European Caucasian female and one European Caucasian male, both in the 50-60 year old range….The film will also feature another minor role described as a “bookish American” in his late 20s."
The actors for the first four characters are expected to “speak multiple languages,” meaning we’re dealing with some pretty intelligent people here. (Intelligent enough for them all to be spies?) Since the movie is supposedly going back to Natasha Romanoff’s beginnings as a Soviet spy, these characters are likely to be spies as well. Whether they’re on her side or not will be hard to tell (and there might be a few twists and turns in the movie with double agents, etc.).
Start placing your bets on which famous actors Marvel Studios will nab next to fill these roles. The official date for the movie is not set yet, but That Hashtag Show predicts it will take Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s May 2020 spot.
