American Horror Story: Apocalypse: What will the finale bring?

The finale of American Horror Story: Apocalypse is next week, and Mallory might hold the key to stopping the apocalypse and Michael Langdon.

A 10-episode season can go by in a flash. American Horror Story: Apocalypse didn’t take any breaks mid-season either, so the season from start to finish has seemed to happen quickly. Next week is the finale of Apocalypse, and what happens next might determine what direction the series goes in the future.

As is often the case with American Horror Story, there are still a lot of unanswered questions going into the finale. We also bet that there will be many surprise reveals and strange twists. Yet, overall, the central question of this season is fairly simple compared to other seasons.

There is a clear good vs. evil storyline. While the witches aren’t squeaky clean models of goodness, they are clearly the good beings in this battle. They are working to stop Michael Langdon, the literal antichrist, from taking over the world and ushering in the apocalypse. This last episode would seem pretty straightforward: who will win? But, seeing as we spent the first three episodes of Apocalypse in a dystopian future, we presumably already know who is going to win.

The fact we’ve already seen the outcome of the battle and know that the apocalypse has happened leaves the opportunity for American Horror Story to include some big twist at the finale.

In the last episode, we were introduced to the idea of a witch ability that can change the events of time. While this power is dangerous and no witch has ever used it successfully before, this could be the plot device used to change the events of the future. Maybe the future that we saw at the beginning of the season won’t end up happening at all.

Mallory, while unable to complete the time travel magic in the last episode, has been set up as the next Supreme or possibly another, more powerful entity. She has mostly been a side character up to this point, but there have been many hints about how important she is. Maybe she will figure out the full extent of her power in the finale and be the one to stop Michael. There’s still the possibility that the show will pull the rug out from under us and go a completely different direction.

(Also, what happened to the two new characters Emily and Timothy from the start of the season? Were they just misdirection?)

We also wouldn’t be surprised if American Horror Story throws in a few reveals that come out of left field. Last week, for example, they somehow tied the Illuminati and Anastasia Romanov into the story. So, you can’t always predict what this show is going to do next.
