Hear Sebastian Stan’s cryptic response to if he’ll become Captain America
Sebastian Stan reveals his stuntman knew about Bucky’s death before he did. As for whether Bucky will become Captain America…
During Sebastian Stan’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Thursday night, he was asked a host of interesting questions, some serious and some not so much, about the character of Bucky Barnes and his involvement in the MCU.
Kimmel started the questions off on a hilarious note when he asked who Sebastian Stan’s least favorite Avengers co-star is. Stan (jokingly) replied, “Tom Holland is a problem,” noting that he’s glad he didn’t have to show up in Spider-Man suit himself like Holland did on his latest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel.
Stan and co-star Anthony Mackie have been known to test Tom Holland frequently, so this answer keeps along with that running gag.
It’s also well-known that much of the Avengers: Infinity War script was kept secret, even from the actors themselves. Jimmy Kimmel asked Stan how he knew he was going to be one of the heroes at the end of Infinity War who died.
“Well, I really didn’t. It was actually my stuntman James Young that told me on set that day. That you know he was like, ‘all right, mate, we’re going to have this mat, and then you’re going to fall.’”
Stan was rightfully confused about what was going on, so he went to the Russo Brothers for clarification.
“So, I went up to Anthony, and I said, ‘Anthony, what’s happening?’ He goes, ‘talk to Joe.’ So, I went up to Joe. He goes, ‘Did you talk to Anthony?’”
Since the Russo brothers were beating around the bush, Stan eventually asked them outright, “Am I dying?” Sounds like Sebastian Stan really didn’t have any time to process what was happening with his character before they shot the scene.
Many fans have been wondering if Bucky Barnes will pick up the Captain America shield in the next phase of the MCU. Kimmel notes that in the comic books Bucky Barnes become Captain America, to which Sebastian Stan made some weird faces at the camera, presumably trying not to give anything away.
His response to if there have been talks about this happening was, “No, no, not really, no. It’s usually like you know, it’s like a dream. People might mention something, but we never go that way.”
We think Stan protests too much, maybe?
You can watch for yourself in the clip above, but he looks like he definitely is trying to avoid answering this question. Most likely, Marvel wouldn’t want him to give an answer, either way, so he might just be uncomfortable and not wanting to accidentally give away too much.
While we aren’t sure we buy Stan’s answer that there haven’t been any discussions about him becoming Cap or not, we will all have to wait and see. It looks like Stan isn’t giving up any secrets today.
