Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: The great cape debate returns

facebooktwitterreddit

Do superheroes wear capes? Unfortunately, Miles Morales and Peter Parker have differing opinions on the matter in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

We would have thought that Edna Mode’s declaration of “No capes!” would have resonated into every superhero movie universe out there. (Well, it definitely hasn’t spread to the DC universe.) It’s the same for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, at least according to a new clip released recently.

In fact, some of the Spider-Men have their own opinions on whether or not a cape is acceptable for a web-slinging hero. While Miles Morales, our main Spider-Man in the movie, seems to be pretty into the idea of trying one out (even if the yellow attempt he tries definitely clashes with his classic red, blue, and black suit), Peter Parker is much more adamant that a Spider-Man doesn’t get to wear a cape.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Peter hasn’t tried a cape on before. Watch the clip below to see what we mean.

If there’s no cape-wearing, does Spider-Man Noir’s coat not count as something at least akin to a cape? Sure, it’s really a trenchcoat, but it could easily get tangled around his legs and thus act as a cape would. Then again, not having a trenchcoat would basically ruin his entire look. Some things must be sacrificed for one’s aesthetic, we suppose.

It’s also good to see that Peter is taking Miles under his wing a bit and showing him the ropes of how to use his powers well. Granted, they both need an assist from Spider-Gwen, who is definitely rocking a great haircut.

Check out the homemade looking Spider-Man classic suit Miles also gets a chance to wear throughout the trailer, including when it’s revealed that he can become invisible. You can bet on that to have a bearing on at least one plot point. It can’t just be a visual gag, right?

Honestly, this movie looks better and better with every clip that’s released. Here’s hoping it can live up to expectations when it’s actually released. (Who knows? Maybe Spider-Ham will end up being the best part of the movie.)
