Supernatural preview: Sam and Dean are confused by new case

Supernatural’s next episode will involve a monster that “makes no sense” to the Winchester brothers. Is the culprit a vampire or something new?

In the next episode of Supernatural, “Nightmare Logic,” the boys struggle to identify the monster of their next hunt. On top of that, whatever it is could be targeting hunters. Sam and Dean might find themselves having to save not only innocents but also potentially people they know. The hunter community, a lot of which are living with the boys in the bunker, has always been presented as a little dysfunctional family, with several hunters acting as Sam and Dean’s close friends or father figures. Therefore, the brothers might take the attacks personally or find it difficult to keep cool heads when their people are in danger.

With a monster specifically attacking hunters, this could be the result of a lone wolf or part of the bigger story arch. Monsters have, for the most part, worked alone or in small packs on the show, and they rarely strike out against hunters, mostly fearing them for their skills and ruthlessness. So, what is the reasoning this monster has for killing hunters?

Additionally, the newest big bad, the Archangel Michael, is still on the loose and it’s unlikely that he has given up on his plan to rule over all of Earth. At the start of the season, Michael revealed that he was working with monsters, mostly vampires and werewolves, and was using angel grace to enhance their powers and make them near-immortal. Could the monster this week be connected to this? It could be following Michael’s orders, and is attempting to kill off hunters because they are a major threat to Michael and his plan.

The preview clip also hints that Sam and Dean could be dealing with a vampire, only they have their reservations after the creature let their victim go. Dean says “What kind of vampire lets its dinner go AWOL?” which is a good point. Vampires, like many other monsters, have one goal which is to feast on human blood. They are cursed with their lust and desire for it, so the brothers must find it suspicious that this creature hasn’t eaten. If the Archangel Michael is responsible, this unusual case could be a trap to lure Sam and Dean in and ambush them.

This would be a good move on Michael’s part because Sam and Dean are the best and strongest hunters around, thus defeating them would be beneficial for both Michael and his monster minions. The monsters themselves would probably be more than happy to get their own back on Sam and Dean for all their people the boys have slaughtered in the past.

Will Sam and Dean find out what is behind these hunter attacks?
