Todd Phillips shares new look at the Clown Prince of Crime on the Joker set
Director Todd Phillips is hard at work on the DC Comics standalone Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix. And during a break, he shared a new look at the Clown Prince of Crime on set.
On Instagram, Todd Phillips shared a new photo from the set of the Joaquin Phoenix-led Joker movie. The image was a candid look at the Clown Prince of Crime in between takes, and while the movie may not have been filming, Phoenix was clearly in the moment.
The Joker could be seen in full costume, with a cigarette in his mouth. He appears to be in an office with his feet up on a desk, magazines at his feet in a pile. Phoenix even had on the same bright pink suit that fans previously saw in the still released last month when filming began. In that image, the Clown Prince of Crime was in the midst of a scene set in a subway station.
And as CBR.com mentions, in the image, it does not appear that the Joker is in any way disfigured behind the makeup. This is a departure from other cinematic versions of the character, as the villain has always appeared disfigured and used makeup to cover it up.
In the caption for the picture shared by Phillips, he explains that the image was taken on the set during a break, so it looks like the office the Joker can be seen in will play a part in the actual film. While we don’t know exactly how this will play into the story, we do know that actor Marc Maron is playing a booking agent for Robert De Niro’s late night talk show host in the movie.
This likely means that Maron has an office similar to the one in the image. Perhaps this is Joker paying a visit to the booking agent, although we can only imagine why he might be stopping in for something so innocuous as a meeting with Maron’s character.
We might not have gotten a lot of actual information from this behind-the-scenes look at the Joker on set, but it certainly has our imagination working. Plus, this is another chance to see Joaquin Phoenix in character as the Clown Prince of Crime, which is definitely something we can all appreciate.
With the Joker standalone movie not set for release until October 4, 2019, we still have a ways to go before we really see what is happening in the film. For now, we will have to continue enjoying the images from the set and any details the studio, Phillips, or the actors want to share with us.
