You can support Make-a-Wish by showing off your Mickey Mouse ears right now

How many pairs of Mickey ears do you own? That iconic Disney symbol is becoming more than just a favorite vacation memory.

Mickey Mouse ears are a part of Disney. From the first pair that you own with your name embroidered on the back to the newest trending colors, this piece of clothing transcends ages, colors and genders. From the child who looks at Mickey Mouse in complete awe to the grandparent finding a little piece of their youth, once you put on those iconic ears, a happiness can take hold. Sometimes, those ears can even make wishes come true.

In tonight’s Mickey’s 90th Spectacular airing on ABC, Disney is launching a new campaign in partnership with Make-A-Wish. Titled Share Your Ears, those pieces of Disney memorabilia can benefit a worthy cause.

Now through Nov. 17, everyone is encouraged to share a picture of Mickey ears with the hashtag #ShareYourEars. With this social media event, Disney will donate up to $2 million dollars ($5 per social media share) to the Make-A-Wish foundation. The social media share must be a public photo.

For fans heading to a Disney theme park, several Instagram-worthy walls will be available to take that perfect fundraising photo. Even in some of the backdrops, you don’t even need ears (they are sketched in). Still, let’s hope that people are creative with their photos.

To ensure that everyone can participate in this campaign, the Mickey ears don’t have to be ones that you purchased at a theme park. Anyone can make the iconic Mickey symbol. All it requires is two round items placed on either side of your head. Just remember, Disney is a family-friendly brand.

Truthfully, I hope that Disney and Make-A-Wish celebrate the creative posts for this social media campaign. The possibilities of creating unique and different ears are many. While I don’t want to reveal my exact plans, I think that a few people could definitely go all out with this campaign.

Since Disney is so incredibly popular with celebrities, I look forward to seeing how many celebrity social media accounts take part in this event. Just think of the possibilities that many movie franchises could post. The creativity behind this campaign is great.

This social media campaign is about making people’s wishes come true. Disney, as much of its branding says, is where dreams come true. Who hasn’t felt that little bit of magic at a Disney theme park, watching a Disney movie or just talking about some of the brand’s iconic characters? That mouse, and his ears, is a symbol that unifies people. From Florida to California, one simple visual can bring people together.

Launching this campaign during this tumultuous time is quite important. Every time some picks up their phone, watches television or even walks out the door, the harshness of the current climate is overwhelming. The bickering, banter and brashness is all-encompassing. Isn’t it refreshing to see people gathering together to find a common, uplifting message that can unify everyone?

Plus, the idea of granting wishes is universal. While Make-A-Wish offers to bring a moment of happiness to a person who is in need, why can’t everyone find a little magic in her daily lives? Grand gestures are important, but those little moments are just as important.

As this Share Your Ears campaign launches today, wouldn’t it be nice that everyone takes the time to share their wish? Maybe in addition to just sharing a picture of Mickey ears, everyone could share a wish or a dream. A little positivity in this world could benefit everyone.
