The Wonder Woman of the Week this week is Kiernan Shipka for her role as Sabrina and using her platform to advocate feminist views.

With our Wonder Woman of the Week series, we want to celebrate women in pop culture who are succeeding and having a stellar week. We also like to highlight people talking about social issues or using their platform for good of some kind.

This week, we are doing both of those things and having a little fun, too. While Halloween is over, boo!, we can still celebrate spooky things for at least another week or all year really. So, we decided to honor someone who really encapsulated all things spooky in pop culture this Halloween season.

Our Wonder Woman of the Week this week is Kiernan Shipka.

Shipka, as most of you probably already know, played the lead character of Sabrina Spellman in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The show is definitely very binge-worthy and has gotten a lot of internet attention.

Shipka was best known before this role for playing Sally Draper, Don Draper’s daughter, in Mad Men. While she was a child actress, she is also starting to come into her own now that she’s in adulthood, and her acting in Sabrina often helped carry the show at times when the plot or story wasn’t perfect.

We congratulate her on her success with this show, and we are definitely excited about what the second season will bring.

Shipka has also been talking a lot recently about feminism and its role in the series. And, speaking of Mad Men, she noted how she drew inspiration in her life from the women she worked with on the show saying, “Even just growing up on a show like Mad Men, watching women at work, playing characters that were multidimensional — I grew up in a feminist environment. It’s made me who I am.”

In an interview with Canada’s National Post, Shipka also talked about her own feminist views and how Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is in line with them. “The writers’ room is super women-heavy and I think the show then inherently has a feminist tone to it, so that’s pretty awesome.”

She also said that she has a lot of her own feminist views, and she is excited to be working on a project that is consistent with them: “It feels really good to be a part of a project that aligns very strongly with what I believe as far as female empowerment and all that kind of stuff.”

We are excited to see what Shipka does in the future, and we always love when an actress talks openly about caring about women’s rights and feminist issues. We also send her many congratulations on her success in her witchy role!

For our Wonder Woman of the Week series, we would love to hear about any women you think we should write about. Pop culture icons are great, but we are also happy to discuss important women in politics and other areas where a woman is doing something amazing.
