7 burning questions we need answered in Elite season 2

Nothing says “teen TV drama” quite like drugs, unplanned pregnancy, and murder. Netflix’s Elite has it all, but we have some questions about what’s on the way.

Ever since Netflix’s latest original Elite, a Spanish-language teen drama, premiered on October 7, it’s received constant comparisons to its predecessor, Gossip Girl. But Elite has so much more than the Upper East Siders had to offer.

Elite takes place in Spain at a prestigious private high school. The school welcomes three working-class students — Christian, Samuel, and Nadia — on scholarships after their school is destroyed by an earthquake. Tensions flair immediately, and the class division between the students is obvious. The school year is a blur of sex, drugs, hookups and crimes that culminate in the murder of the school’s most troubled student, Marina.

Elite caused quite a stir when it hit the streaming service because of its racy subject matter, graphic sex scenes (they’re supposed to be teens after all), and dedication to diversity. But that’s what makes it so much more than a Gossip Girl wannabe. A second season is set for 2019, so now it’s time to speculate while we wait. So many things happened during the show’s first season that we don’t even know where to begin!

Will Christian stay loyal to Samuel, or his new girlfriend Carla?

Samuel not only lost his girlfriend Marina, who was pregnant with his brother Nano’s baby, but he also had to witness his brother get arrested for the murder of that girlfriend, which he fiercely claims he didn’t do. At first, Samuel never wanted to see Nano again (because of, y’know, the whole getting Marina pregnant thing), but now he’s dedicated to clearing his name and getting him out of prison. But will his best friend be by his side? It doesn’t seem likely.

Since Christian knows the truth about Marina’s death and who really killed her (Polo), it might be hard to fight for Nano’s innocence. Carla told him that now he’s one of them, the conniving rich kids, and they always defend each other no matter what. So will he be loyal to Polo — his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend — or his best friend’s brother?

Will Omar come out to his parents?

You can see the pain on Omar’s face anytime he’s around his parents. His father wants him to be the perfect Muslim son, but Omar knows he can’t do that. His blossoming relationship with Ander is already strained from keeping things so private, and once Omar got permanently grounded for dealing drugs, it was all over. But it seems like his dad might be loosening his grip a bit, at least for his sister Nadia, so maybe he will feel comfortable enough to come out in season 2.

Can Omar and Ander’s relationship last through all their family drama?

We couldn’t not talk more about Omar and Ander’s relationship. Not only do they have to deal with Omar’s overprotective, religious parents, but they also have Ander’s father, who has been pushing Ander to be a tennis superstar his whole life, and his mother, the headmistress of their school and the person who told Omar’s father about him dealing drugs. Surprisingly, Ander’s parents were okay with him being gay, and Ander even mustered up the confidence to tell his dad he’s quitting tennis. They seem all in with this relationship, so chances are they can make it through, but not without challenges.

Will Polo be able to keep his mouth shut about Marina’s murder?

Polo might be crazy enough to kill a pregnant teenage girl, but he’s not very smart or brave. He was basically a puppet for both Guzmán and Carla — funny enough, that’s what Marina said to trigger him to beat her over the head — and he’s already struggling to keep in his dark secret. It’s shocking to believe that the police couldn’t tell he was lying, he was shaking uncontrollably and couldn’t keep his story straight. So how long until this secret eats him up so badly that he blurts it out, or worse?

Will Nadia still be interested in Guzmán, or will she focus on her studies?

Nadia and Guzmán had a really weird dynamic the entire season. Does she like him? Does he like her? Was he using her? They really don’t seem like they’d be a good couple. Plus, because of him, Nadia’s father pulled her out of school when she was one of the best students in the entire grade. He doesn’t want her getting wrapped up in a boy like that, but he does agree to let her go back to school next year. Guzmán will definitely need a shoulder to cry on now that Marina is dead, but will that shoulder belong to Lu or Nadia?

What about Marina’s HIV?

Okay, hear us out for a second. Marina revealed she was HIV positive, but assured everyone that the virus was undetectable in her system and couldn’t be transmitted. This moment was really good at working to end the stigma around HIV, especially in a show about teenagers, but what if Marina was lying? Or what if she was misinformed about her diagnosis? Marina wasn’t a trustworthy character and was known for making harmful decisions. More than one person has come in contact with either her blood or… other fluids. Nano had unprotected sex with her, Nadia got her blood on an open wound on her hand, and Polo was covered in her blood when he killed her. Maybe this isn’t the last we hear about Marina.

Can Nano prove his innocence, and most importantly, will Samuel be by his side?

The big twist at the end of season 1 was when the police came out and arrested Nano for the murder of Marina, even though it seemed like they may have zeroed in on the real killer, Polo. Nano was planning on running away with Marina to start a fresh life together, away from all the crime and family drama. Nano was already heartbroken about Marina’s death, but now he’s being blamed too.

Samuel said he wants to help prove Nano is innocent, but will it stay that way? He put Samu and his mom’s life at risk multiple times and he knocked up his girlfriend! Plus, if Nano hadn’t gotten them in such a messy situation in the first place by stealing Carla’s dad’s watches and then blackmailing him, Marina would still be alive.
